The roof of your commercial property in Marietta, Georgia may appear to be in excellent condition, but leaks and moisture intrusions can be difficult to detect. With infrared roof inspection from Building Diagnostics Group, you can see what is happening below the surface without damaging the roof system.
Building Diagnostics Group (BDG) is a multifaceted consulting firm that specializes in the non-destructive detection, investigation, and resolution of water intrusions on multi-family, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings throughout the nation. We combine state-of-the-art technology with a skilled team of professional thermographers in order to produce reports of the highest quality.
About Infrared Thermography (IR)
Infrared thermography (IR) is the use of specialized equipment (infrared cameras, also known as thermal imaging devices) to measure the infrared radiation (thermal energy) emitted from an object. The amount of radiation increases with temperature but is not visible because its wavelength is too long to be detected by the human eye.
When there is a leak in a roof membrane, water can enter the roof system and saturate the insulation and underlying layers. During the day, solar energy heats up the roof membrane and the insulation underneath. When the sun sets, the roof system cools off, but the wet areas hold the heat longer than the dry areas. Thermographic cameras can detect these variations in temperature with or without visible illumination.
Infrared thermography is the only diagnostic tool that instantly detects whether water has penetrated a roof system or building envelope.
Roof Inspection Services
BDG offers several types of roof inspection services depending on the roof type, location, and client needs. Our team can evaluate up to 300,000 SF of roof area in a single visit via our walk-over method, or evaluate millions of square feet by utilizing our aerial sUAS service.
Walk-over method: We utilize professional grade infrared camera equipment to capture high-resolution digital images and use the images to identify problem areas on the roof that are unseen from the surface. These images can be provided in a traditional PDF report format that outlines concerns found during the inspection and recommendations for proper repairs.
Aerial method: Thermal infrared roof inspections with aerial drones that are specially equipped with top of the line high-resolution FLIR camera systems are ideal for determining active roof leaks and can significantly reduce the time and expense of commercial roof inspections. This service is performed just after sunset and does not require roof access or disrupt the occupants of the building.
BDG is FAA-authorized to perform nighttime aerial operations with an approved Daylight Operation Waiver under 14 CFR § 107.29. The waiver allows us to perform aerial infrared roof inspections throughout the United States.
