Infrared Inspections in Florida
Infrared Inspections in Florida

Infrared inspections from Building Diagnostics Group will identify moisture problems in your Florida multi-family and commercial buildings. We have identified significant hidden building facade defects that have cost from $2 to $5 million dollars in underlying structural repairs.

About Building Diagnostics Group

Building Diagnostics Group (BDG) is a multifaceted consulting firm with extensive expertise in infrared building science and water testing procedures that enable us to identify the cause and origin of most building failures.

Robert Scherer, President of BDG, has over 25 years of residential and commercial construction experience. In 2000, he was introduced to the incredible potential of infrared thermography in the building construction industry and purchased his first infrared camera, the first in southwest Florida.

Robert became a pioneer in the field of moisture intrusion and building defect investigations with the use of infrared thermography. He is a Certified Indoor Environmentalist, Certified Mold Inspector, an ITC Certified Level III Thermographer with over 15 years of thermography experience, and is certified in Advanced Building Diagnostics.

Infrared Thermography (IR)

Infrared thermography (IR) is the use of specialized equipment to measure the thermal energy emitted from an object. Thermal energy is light that is not visible because its wavelength is too long to be detected by the human eye.

Infrared (IR) cameras, also called thermographic scanners and thermal imaging devices, measure the intensity of thermal energy being emitted by the object it is aimed at.

Thermography is a proven cost-effective tool in maintaining the reliability of electrical and mechanical systems because nearly everything that uses or transmits power overheats before it fails. Also, due to the temperature differences between wet building materials and adjacent dry materials, infrared thermography is the only diagnostic tool that instantly detects whether water has penetrated a building envelope.

BDG provides the highest quality infrared and digital imagery in the industry. We use only high-resolution FLIR SYSTEMS thermography equipment and utilize several different camera systems, including a Zenmuse XT 640×512 resolution radiometric infrared camera, each for a specific use and calibrated for specific targets.

Infrared Inspection Services

BDG offers services in several different roles. We often work with engineering firms during the due diligence process of an acquisition. We are typically the first to inspect the exterior of a property, providing insight as to the overall condition and the need, if any, for additional services to complete the due diligence of a property.

We are also used in litigation and insurance claims to either provide details as to the extent of the claim or provide bid specification for remedial actions. Many commercial and multi-family properties contract us to perform annual inspections to proactively protect their investment.
