Atlanta Thermal Imaging Inspections
Atlanta Thermal Imaging Inspections

Building Diagnostics Group, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, provides the most comprehensive non-destructive thermal imaging inspections available today for multi-family, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings.

Building Diagnostics Group (BDG) is a multifaceted consulting firm with extensive experience in the non-destructive detection, investigation, and resolution of water intrusions. Our highly trained team of professionals has the knowledge and ability to perform a wide range of thermal imaging inspections locally, regionally and nationwide and can handle any size project.

Robert Scherer, President of BDG, is certified in Advanced Building Diagnostics and is an ITC Certified Level III Thermographer with over 15 years of thermography experience in many different applications. Robert is also a Certified Indoor Environmentalist and Certified Mold Inspector. He has presented at building industry conferences and published white papers on specialty applications for the use of infrared thermography.

Infrared Thermography (IR)

Infrared thermography (IR) is the use of specialized equipment to measure the thermal energy emitted from an object. Thermal energy is light that is not visible because its wavelength is too long to be detected by the human eye.

Infrared (IR) cameras, also called thermographic scanners and thermal imaging devices, measure the intensity of thermal energy being emitted by the object it is aimed at.

Thermography is a proven cost-effective tool in maintaining the reliability of electrical and mechanical systems because nearly everything that uses or transmits power overheats before it fails. Also, due to the temperature differences between wet building materials and adjacent dry materials, infrared thermography is the only diagnostic tool that instantly detects whether water has penetrated a building envelope.

Infrared cameras produce images of raw data, and proper interpretation requires training and years of experience. High-resolution camera systems can detect even the slightest thermal patterns, but low resolution or low-cost cameras are less sensitive. Before you choose your thermographer, check their credentials and ensure they have the proper equipment and expertise to perform your inspection.

BDG provides the highest quality infrared and digital imagery in the industry. We use only high-resolution FLIR SYSTEMS thermography equipment and utilize several different camera systems, including a Zenmuse XT 640×512 resolution radiometric infrared camera, each for a specific use and calibrated for specific targets.

Comprehensive Services

BDG offers services in several different roles. We often work with engineering firms during the due diligence process of an acquisition. We are typically the first to inspect the exterior of a property, providing insight about the overall condition and the need, if any, for additional services to complete the due diligence evaluation.

Many commercial and multi-family properties contract us to perform annual inspections to proactively protect their investments. We are also used in conjunction with litigation and insurance claims to either provide details as to the extent of the claim or provide bid specification for remedial actions.

Our wide range of services include:
