Aerial Infrared Roof Inspections
Thermal imaging cameras are a powerful tool for conducting roof inspections. This service is performed just after sunset and works on the premise that wet areas on a roof retain heat longer than dry areas. As the roof’s surface cools after sunset, the temperature differences are easily detectable using sUAS aerial thermal imaging. The areas of moisture are documented for further investigation and proper repair recommendations.
BDG is FAA-authorized to perform nighttime aerial operations with an approved Daylight Operation Waiver under 14 CFR § 107.29. The waiver allows us to perform aerial infrared roof inspections throughout the United States.
Aerial Exterior Building Inspections
BDG evaluates the condition of exterior cladding systems by using infrared thermography to map areas of moisture entrapment and delimitation caused by environmental stress.
We can identify potential hidden defects in many different cladding systems, from single coat stucco systems, to Exterior Insulation Finish Systems (EIFS), to siding. We are often the first to identify signs of a potentially larger problem because water intrusion from the building exterior can take years to show up on the interior, at which point extensive damage has already been done.

Regular solar panel inspections are important for efficient power generation, long service life, and high returns on investment. Performing aerial drone thermal inspections starting with new installation and followed by annual inspections will help extend the solar panels’ lifetime.
sUAS inspections are greatly reducing the quality assurance program cost of solar field inspections by eliminating helicopter rental, pilot payment, fuel bills, and the other costs associated with bringing it all together. Furthermore, inspections are performed under normal operating conditions and do not require a shutdown.
