About BDG

Building Diagnostics Group (BDG), headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, is a multifaceted consulting firm that specializes in the non-destructive detection, investigation, and resolution of water intrusions on multi-family, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings throughout the nation. Our expertise in infrared building science and water testing procedures enables us to identify the cause and origin of most building failures.

Our highly trained team of professionals uses only high-resolution FLIR SYSTEMS thermography equipment with several different camera systems, including a Zenmuse XT 640×512 resolution radiometric infrared camera, each for a specific use and calibrated for specific targets.

BDG offers services in several different roles. We often work with engineering firms during the due diligence process of an acquisition and are typically the first to inspect the exterior of a property, providing insight as to the overall condition and the need, if any, for additional services.

About Infrared Thermography

Infrared thermography (IR) is the use of specialized equipment to measure the thermal energy emitted from an object. Thermal energy is light that is not visible because its wavelength is too long to be detected by the human eye.

Infrared (IR) cameras, also called thermographic scanners and thermal imaging devices, measure the intensity of thermal energy being emitted by the object they are aimed at.

Due to the temperature differences between wet building materials and adjacent dry materials, infrared thermography is the only diagnostic tool that instantly detects whether water has penetrated a building envelope. Thermography is also a proven cost-effective tool in maintaining the reliability of electrical and mechanical systems because nearly everything that uses or transmits power overheats before it fails.

Infrared cameras produce images of raw data, and proper interpretation requires training and years of experience. High-resolution camera systems can detect even the slightest thermal patterns, but low resolution or low-cost cameras are less sensitive. Before you choose your thermographer, check their credentials and ensure they have the proper equipment and expertise to perform your inspection.
