Building Diagnostics Group (BDG) was founded in 2002 and has become an industry leader in infrared inspections and the non-destructive detection, investigation, and resolution of water intrusions in multi-family and commercial buildings in Falls Church, VA, and across the nation.
Robert Scherer, President of BDG, is an ITC Certified Level III Thermographer with decades of thermography experience in a wide range of applications. He is certified in Advanced Building Diagnostics and is a Certified Indoor Environmentalist and Certified Mold Inspector. His skilled team provides the most comprehensive non-destructive building investigations available today.
We have wide-ranging knowledge of most building systems and specialize in forensic water intrusion investigations that enable us to test fenestrations on new construction projects properly, and to pinpoint the cause of any test failures. Failures during quality assurance (new construction) testing can result in unnecessary delays that impact your bottom line. BDG can provide accurate recommendations that can help you achieve successful testing results.
About Infrared Inspection
Traditional building inspections typically involve drilling holes in walls, removing whole sections of walls to install inspection ports, and other time-consuming and invasive techniques. With infrared technology, there is no need for these destructive testing methods.
Infrared inspection (or thermography) is a passive, cost-effective heat-sensing technique that is used to “see” and “measure” the thermal energy emitted by objects that is not possible to detect with the human eye. It enables you to view systems (mechanical, electrical, building envelopes) under normal operating conditions to identify abnormally cool or warm areas that indicate moisture intrusion, insulation deficiencies, and other energy losses.
What We Do
BDG’s inspections can rapidly identify costly hidden damage behind most facades. We perform field-testing procedures relative to evaluating the performance of installed windows, doors, skylights, curtain walls, sloped glazing systems, ribbon windows, and exterior building facades to determine the cause of any water intrusions. Our services also include:
- Interior building inspections
- Commercial roof surveys
- Aerial infrared roof inspections
- Energy audits
- Electrical inspections
- Construction site monitoring
After inspection, the thermographer will interpret the infrared data and provide you with a comprehensive report. High-resolution digital images can be delivered as a traditional PDF report that outlines concerns found during the inspection and recommendations for proper repairs. They can also be uploaded to BDG’s cloud reporting platform to be viewed, annotated, measured and shared.
Why Hire BDG?
The BDG team can work with you during the due diligence process of an acquisition. Clients also use us in litigation and insurance claims to either provide details as to the extent of the claim or provide bid specifications for remedial actions. Many multi-family and commercial property owners strive to proactively protect their investments and hire us to perform annual inspections.
