Building Diagnostics Group conducts water testing and building investigations in Plano, Texas, and across the nation, providing the most comprehensive non-destructive infrared building investigations available today.
Building Diagnostics Group (BDG), headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, is a multifaceted consulting firm that specializes in the non-destructive detection, investigation, and resolution of water intrusions on multi-family, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings throughout the nation. Our expertise in infrared building science and water testing procedures enables us to identify the cause and origin of most building failures.
Robert Scherer, President of BDG, has over 25 years of residential and commercial construction experience. In 2000, he discovered the potential of infrared thermography in the building construction industry and purchased his first infrared camera, the first in southwest Florida.
Robert became a pioneer in the field of moisture intrusion and building defect investigations with the use of infrared thermography. He is a Certified Indoor Environmentalist, Certified Mold Inspector, an ITC Certified Level III Thermographer with over 15 years of thermography experience and is certified in Advanced Building Diagnostics.
About Infrared Thermography (IR)
Infrared thermography (IR) is the use of specialized equipment (infrared cameras, also known as thermal imaging devices) to measure the thermal energy emitted from an object. Thermal energy is light that is not visible because its wavelength is too long to be detected by the human eye.
Thermography is a proven cost-effective tool in maintaining the reliability of electrical and mechanical systems because nearly everything that uses or transmits power overheats before it fails. Also, due to the temperature differences between wet building materials and adjacent dry materials, infrared thermography is the only diagnostic tool that instantly detects whether water has penetrated a building envelope.
BDG provides the highest quality infrared and digital imagery in the industry. We use only high-resolution FLIR SYSTEMS thermography equipment and utilize several different camera systems, including a Zenmuse XT 640×512 resolution radiometric infrared camera, each for a specific use and calibrated for specific targets.
About Our Inspection Services
BDG offers services in several different roles. We often work with engineering firms during the due diligence process of an acquisition. We are typically the first to inspect the exterior of a property, providing insight about the overall condition and the need, if any, for additional services to complete the due diligence evaluation. And many commercial and multi-family properties contract us to perform annual inspections to proactively protect their investments.
Our wide range of services include:
- Exterior building inspections
- Interior building inspections
- Commercial roof surveys
- Aerial infrared roof inspections
- Cell Fill (CMU) evaluations
- EIFS inspections
- Energy audits
- Electrical inspections
- Construction site monitoring
