Infrared inspections by Building Diagnostics Group in Alpharetta, GA are a cost-effective way to detect building envelope problems, moisture infiltration, and energy issues that are not visible to the naked eye.
Building Diagnostics Group (BDG), headquartered in Atlanta, specializes in the non-destructive detection, investigation, and resolution of water intrusions on multi-family, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings throughout the nation.
President Robert Scherer has 25+ years of residential and commercial construction experience and is a pioneer in the field of moisture intrusion and building defect investigations with infrared thermography. He is an ITC Certified Level III Thermographer with over 15 years of thermography experience, a Certified Indoor Environmentalist, a Certified Mold Inspector, and is certified in Advanced Building Diagnostics.
High-Quality Equipment
Thermal cameras
BDG uses only high-resolution thermography equipment from FLIR SYSTEMS, the global leader in infrared technology. Our team of highly trained professionals works with several different camera systems, each for a specific use and calibrated for specific targets, including the reliable, rapidly deployable Zenmuse XT 640×512 resolution radiometric infrared camera.
Commercial drones
Unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) provide another method for efficiently inspecting roofs, building enclosures, and other elevated structures under construction or in need of repair, all from the comfort and safety of the ground. The aerial data gathered is used for effective quality control, asset management, investigations, and project documentation.
BDG’s inventory includes four commercial FLIR-equipped DJI Inspire and Matrice drones that produce high-resolution images and video and capture application-specific data in detail that was never before possible. They are capable of detecting temperatures of less than ½ degree F, enabling us to detect even the slightest anomalies.
BDG is also FAA-authorized to perform nighttime aerial operations with an approved Daylight Operation Waiver under 14 CFR § 107.29. The waiver allows us to perform aerial infrared roof inspections throughout the United States.
Our Inspection Specialties
During an assessment, a BDG inspector visits the site and spends several hours or days doing a walk-through of the property and inspecting the building envelope, structural systems, HVAC systems, electrical systems, plumbing and more.
We perform field-testing procedures relative to evaluating the performance of installed windows, doors, curtain walls, sloped glazing systems, skylights, ribbon windows, and exterior building facades for quality assurance and diagnostic services to determine the cause of any water intrusions.
In addition to exterior inspections, infrared thermography is a powerful investigative tool in other applications, such as:
- Interior building inspections
- Commercial roof surveys
- Aerial infrared roof inspections
- Electrical inspections
- Cell Fill (CMU) evaluations
- EIFS inspections
- Energy audits
Clients receive a detailed written report that fully describes any concerns or defects found during our inspections, as well as photo documentation. Inspection reports can be customized to meet your requirements based on how the report will be used and its intended audience.
