Building Diagnostics Group performs thermal building inspections, aerial thermography, water penetration testing, and other services to clients in Atlanta, Georgia and across the nation.
Founded in 2002, Building Diagnostics Group (BDG) specializes in the non-destructive detection, investigation, and resolution of water intrusions on multi-family, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings. We can handle any size project.
Robert Scherer, President, is certified in Advanced Building Diagnostics and is an ITC Certified Level III Thermographer, Certified Indoor Environmentalist and Certified Mold Inspector with more than 15 years of thermography experience in a wide range of applications.
The BDG team’s expertise in infrared building science and water testing procedures enables us to identify the cause and origin of most building failures, and our highly trained team provides the most comprehensive thermal building investigations available today.
About Thermal Inspection
Thermography provides a means for viewing building systems under normal operating conditions to identify abnormally warm or cool areas that indicate moisture intrusion, insulation deficiencies and other energy losses.
Infrared inspection (or IR thermography) is a passive and cost-effective heat-sensing technique that can “see” and “measure” the thermal energy, also known as a heat signature, emitted by an object even when it cannot be detected with the human eye.
Heat emissions are captured by a thermal imaging device (or thermal camera) that can detect the smallest changes in temperature of an object. As the heat moves outward from the object, the thermal camera “sees” it and translates the thermal energy (heat) into visible light in order to analyze a particular object.
After inspection, the thermographer interprets the infrared data and provides clients with a comprehensive report. High-resolution digital images can be provided in a traditional PDF report format that outlines concerns found during the inspection and recommendations for proper repairs or can be uploaded to BDG’s cloud reporting platform to be viewed, annotated, measured and shared.
BDG’s Thermal Inspection Services
Our infrared inspection services include, but are not limited to:
- Exterior building inspections – BDG can thoroughly evaluate a building’s exterior wall system for water intrusions that may have damaged the exterior sheathing and/or structural components and effectively identify potential hidden defects.
- Interior building inspections – With our extensive knowledge and use of high resolution infrared cameras, we can quickly pinpoint the exact location of water intrusions with little or no physical disassembly of the premises and with minimal disturbance to the occupants.
- Commercial roof surveys – Infrared roof inspections are a non-contact and non-destructive testing method of finding active roof leaks before they break through and drip down a wall or onto a floor below. Our inspections are fast, affordable, and provide a clear picture of damaged areas.
- Energy audits – Infrared thermography can identify and address areas where heat loss and moisture intrusion are negatively impacting building performance. Our energy audits are the fastest and most effective non-destructive method of assessing the energy efficiency of residential and commercial structures and HVAC systems.
