Infrared Inspections in Pensacola, FL

Infrared inspections from Building Diagnostics Group can help you identify moisture problems in your multi-family, commercial, industrial or institutional building before they become serious.

Building Diagnostics Group (BDG), headquartered in Atlanta, is a multifaceted consulting firm that specializes in the detection, investigation, and resolution of water intrusions on multi-family, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings throughout the nation. Our expertise in infrared building science and water testing procedures enables us to identify the cause and origin of most building failures.

What is Infrared Thermography?

Infrared thermography (IR) is the science of infrared imaging. Infrared radiation is emitted by all objects, and the amount of radiation increases with temperature. Thermographic cameras detect this radiation in a similar way as an ordinary camera detects visible light. The radiation is converted into visible high-resolution images that make it possible to “see” variations in temperature with or without visible illumination.

BDG’s infrared building inspection services include exterior building inspections, interior building inspections, commercial roof surveys, cell fill (CMU) evaluations, EIFS inspections, electrical inspections, energy audits, and more.

With our proven inspection techniques and high-resolution infrared thermography expertise, we can quickly identify costly hidden damage behind most facades. This provides the building owner or buyer with an accurate understanding of its structural integrity in order to make informed decisions.

After an inspection, the thermographer interprets the infrared data and provides clients with a comprehensive report. High-resolution digital images can be provided in a traditional PDF report format that outlines concerns found during the inspection and recommendations for proper repairs or can be uploaded to BDG’s cloud reporting platform to be viewed, annotated, measured and shared.

Different site conditions related to solar loading (sun exposure), extreme temperature conditions, wind, recent rainfall, and interior conditions can help or hinder thermography findings. Time constraints can also make site conditions difficult. An experienced thermographer can overcome difficult site conditions and properly interpret what is being detected by the infrared camera. Not all infrared cameras are equal; BDG uses only high-resolution equipment.

Benefits of Infrared Inspections

Infrared inspections detect temperature variations in a building envelope, providing quick and accurate detection of moisture leaks, energy loss and electrical malfunctions in walls, under floors and in other hidden places. Inspections can reveal small defects before they escalate into major crises. The benefits include:

  • Fast, reliable, accurate detection of energy loss, moisture and electrical issues
  • Advance warning of a potential problems and system failures
  • Non-invasive and non-destructive
  • More accurate inspection results
  • Minimal interference with building occupants
  • Facility shutdown not required
  • Helps prevent unscheduled downtime
  • Ideal for predictive maintenance of electrical, mechanical and structural systems
  • Cost savings

BDG has performed services on 300+ multi-family and commercial properties and inspected in excess of over 50 million square feet. In 2018 alone, we inspected 92 properties in 19 states (41 cities), totaling more than 26 million square feet.
