Infrared Inspection Experts

Building Diagnostics Group can uncover the sources, not just the symptoms, of water intrusion. As infrared inspection experts, we have the ability to identify the cause and origin of most building failures.

Building Diagnostics Group (BDG), headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, is a multifaceted consulting firm. Our proficiency in infrared building science and water testing procedures, as well as thermal infrared aerial imagery, are invaluable to architects, builders, property developers, construction managers, insurance companies and others.

With several high-resolution infrared cameras, each designed for a specific use, and a highly trained team of professionals including FAA Authorized Commercial sUAS Remote Pilots, Certified Level III Thermographers, Certified Industrial Hygienists (CIH), and other engineering/architectural specialists, BDG provides the most comprehensive non-destructive infrared inspections available today.

What is Infrared Thermography?

Infrared thermography (IR) is the science of infrared imaging. Infrared radiation is emitted by all objects, and the amount of radiation increases with temperature. Thermographic cameras detect this radiation in a similar way as an ordinary camera detects visible light. The radiation is converted into visible high-resolution images that make it possible to “see” variations in temperature with or without visible illumination.

BDG’s infrared building inspection services include exterior building inspections, interior building inspections, commercial roof surveys, cell fill (CMU) evaluations, EIFS inspections, electrical inspections, energy audits, and more.

With our proven inspection techniques and high-resolution infrared thermography expertise, we can quickly identify costly hidden damage behind most facades. This provides the building owner or buyer with an accurate understanding of its structural integrity in order to make informed decisions.

Benefits of Infrared Inspections

Infrared inspections detect temperature variations in a building envelope, providing quick and accurate detection of moisture leaks, energy loss and electrical malfunctions in walls, under floors and in other hidden places. Inspections can reveal small defects before they escalate into major crises.

Unlike many commercial building inspection techniques, infrared imaging is completely non-invasive, which means there is no risk of damaging any aspect of the property and minimal disruption.

Infrared inspections provide advance warning of potential problems and system failures. They also help:

  • Improve energy efficiency
  • Reduce safety incidents caused by unexpected system failures
  • Prevent lost production time
  • Reduce operating costs
  • Enhance predictive maintenance of electrical, mechanical and structural systems

Infrared inspections are ideal during due diligence of commercial or multi-family property acquisitions and can be invaluable to architects, property developers, insurance companies and others. Many property owners contract us to perform annual inspections to proactively protect their investments.

BDG has performed services on 300+ multi-family and commercial properties and inspected in excess of over 50 million square feet. Our services have identified significant hidden building defects that have cost from $2 to $5 million dollars in underlying structural repairs.
