Building Inspection with Drone in Atlanta, Georgia
Building Inspection with Drone in Atlanta, Georgia

Building Diagnostic Group’s infrared exterior building inspection with drones in Atlanta, Georgia and across the nation provide the most comprehensive non-destructive building investigations available today.

Knowing as much as possible about a building envelope provides the critical information prospective buyers and investors need to identify costly hidden damage or validate a sound investment.

Founded in 2002, Building Diagnostics Group (BDG) specializes in the non-destructive detection, investigation, and resolution of water intrusions on multi-family, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings. We can handle any size project.

Robert Scherer, President, is certified in Advanced Building Diagnostics and is an ITC Certified Level III Thermographer, Certified Indoor Environmentalist and Certified Mold Inspector with more than 15 years of thermography experience in a wide range of applications.

The highly trained BDG team’s expertise in infrared building science and water testing procedures enables us to identify the cause and origin of most building failures. We are capable of performing thorough inspections on large properties in days rather than weeks. We can usually evaluate 10 to 15 low-rise apartment buildings in just a few days on site.

Commercial Drones & Infrared Thermography

Commercial drones — also called unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) – make it possible to accurately and efficiently inspect roofs, building enclosures, and other elevated structures under construction or in need of repair, all from the comfort and safety of the ground. The aerial data gathered is used for effective quality control, asset management, investigations, and project documentation.

Commercial drones use advanced GPS systems that track up to 18+ satellites at one time. They have onboard optical avoidance sensors, redundant backup systems, and some even use dual D-RTK antennas to withstand strong magnetic interference.

BDG has an inventory of four commercial FLIR-equipped DJI Inspire and Matrice drones mounted with high-resolution infrared camera systems that can detect building defects beyond the visible inspection, identifying potential problems that could cost thousands of dollars to repair.

Aerial Roof Inspections

BDG’s aerial drone thermal infrared roof inspections are ideal for determining active roof leaks during due diligence of commercial or multi-family property acquisitions and can significantly reduce the time and expense of commercial roof inspections when compared to conventional methods. This thermal imaging service is performed just after sunset to detect warm trapped moisture under the roofing membrane. We can detect otherwise unobservable areas of water damage without requiring roof access or causing disruption to the occupants of the building.

Exterior Building Inspections

BDG can thoroughly evaluate a building’s exterior wall system for water intrusions that may have damaged the exterior sheathing and/or structural components. We have the ability to identify potential hidden defects in many different cladding systems, from single coat stucco systems to Exterior Insulation Finish Systems (EIFS) to siding. Because water intrusion from the building exterior can take years to show up on the interior, at which point extensive damage has already been done, BDG is often the first to identify signs of larger, potentially very costly, problems.

Building Diagnostics Group has the credentials and experience to perform thermal building inspections with drones and other infrared inspection services in Atlanta, Georgia and nationwide. Call us at (404) 946-9939 to learn more.
