Aerial Construction Monitoring in Atlanta, Georgia

Aerial construction site monitoring services from Building Diagnostics Group, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, enable building owners and construction managers to monitor and manage construction progress and quickly see things that are invisible to the naked eye.

Building Diagnostics Group (BDG) is a multifaceted consulting firm that specializes in aerial thermography, infrared building science, and water penetration testing. Our highly trained team of professionals has the knowledge and ability to perform a wide range of thermal imaging inspections locally, regionally and nationwide and can handle any size project.

How sUAS Thermal Imaging Works

Small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are small, remotely piloted aircraft, also known as commercial drones. They can be equipped with infrared cameras to assist in applications that would be difficult for a normal manned aircraft with limited maneuverability.

Thermal imaging uses the infrared radiation emitted by all objects to detect temperature variations between the object and its surroundings. The radiation is converted into visible high-resolution images that make it possible to “see” the variations in temperature with or without visible illumination.

At BDG, we are FAA Authorized Commercial Drone Remote Pilots with a current inventory of DJI Inspire and Matrice drones specially equipped with high-resolution FLIR camera systems. The aircraft feature a Zenmuse XT 640×512 resolution radiometric infrared camera that is capable of producing high-resolution images and video.

Construction Site Monitoring

Building and construction site monitoring can be a simple, one-time aerial image or multiple images over a specific period. Aerial site data is collected at predetermined intervals or during specific project milestones and can be analyzed by construction managers and owners using a variety of tools, such as photorealistic 3D models, surface and volume measurements, BIM comparisons and timeline data. The data capture requires no direct interaction with the site and allows work to continue undisturbed.

In addition to aerial construction site monitoring, Building Diagnostics Group offers other aerial thermal inspection services, including (but not limited to):

Aerial Infrared Roof Inspections: This service is performed just after sunset and works on the principle that wet areas on a roof retain heat longer than dry areas. As the roof’s surface cools after sunset, temperature differences can be easily detected using UAV aerial thermal imaging. In a typical due diligence/acquisition project, BDG finds moisture defects that allow clients to negotiate repairs or retain credits before closing, saving them hundreds of thousands of dollars in repairs.

Aerial Solar Panel Inspections: Regular inspections are important for efficient power generation, long service life, and high returns on investment. Performing aerial drone thermal inspections starting with new installation and followed by annual inspections will help extend the solar panels’ lifetime. BDG’s inspections are performed under normal operating conditions and do not require a shutdown.

Aerial Tower & Structure Inspections: BDG provides high-resolution digital photography and inspections to help maintain, build, or modify water tower structures, cell phone towers, wind turbines, and other elevated structures that are difficult or impossible to reach on foot. Complete documentation includes noting visible deficiencies, documenting the condition of the existing coating, determining hardware failures, and providing general overall tower conditions.
